Abstract/Notes

Abstract: Unrelieved pain is a major global and national healthcare problem. Chronic pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined.1 One hundred million Americans suffer from chronic pain with one out of ten experiencing pain every day for three months or more. In the adult population, one-tenth are diagnosed with chronic pain annually with a median duration of 7 years per episode.2 There is growing evidence that nutritional interventions and nutraceutical applications have a role in pain management. Omega-3 fatty acids have a strong role in this integrative approach.
